Description

If you want to enjoy one of the most beautiful sights in Paris, make sure not to miss the breathtaking City of Lights view from the top of the Arc de Triomphe.

The Arc is a modern reinterpretation of the classic Roman triumphal arch design. Reaching a height of 50 meters, the panorama from the top of the arch is definitely worth the ascent. You can admire the dozen Parisian roads stretching out from it in different directions towards the City of Light. Paris is truly one of the most captivating destinations globally, and you find yourself right at its heart!

Napoleon, inspired by the magnificent arches of ancient Rome, ordered the construction of the Arc de Triomphe shortly following his triumph at Austerlitz. Regrettably, he did not witness its entire completion, which is a common outcome when creating such intricate works. Notice the detailed relief sculptures located at the bottom of each of the four columns, elaborate depictions of soldiers encircling the apex, and inscriptions of 128 battles and 558 generals. Even though it required three decades, the end result justified the effort.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, located at the foundation of the arch, honors the memory of 1.3 million French soldiers who lost their lives in WWI. In 1921, the Unknown Soldier was interred under the eternal flame. Every evening at 18:30, the flame is lit again.

Additionally, there is an exhibition located at the summit where your ticket for the Arc de Triomphe would grant you entry to view informative displays and models elaborating on the symbolic significance of this landmark. Be certain to explore it either after reaching the summit or prior to ascending the remaining stairs towards the top.

To reach the center of the roundabout where the Arc de Triomphe stands, are you looking for directions? Avoid the busy traffic in Paris and opt for the stairs located on the north side of the Champs-Élysées that connect to pedestrian tunnels. By using these stairs, you can prevent the possibility of being involved in an accident with a scooter and save yourself from unnecessary trouble.
