Summary
Description
The Château d’Azay-le-Rideau presents a unique combination of architectural styles from the 16th century in the picturesque Loire Valley. Encompassed by 8 hectares of gardens designed in the English style, this castle of French Renaissance heritage is both magnificent and steeped in history.
Located beautifully on a solitary island in the Indre River, this ancient Château has stood here ever since the era of Francis I. Built from 1518 to 1527, it has recently undergone a significant renovation to repair the slate roofing and original 16th-century structure.
After a good cleaning, the castle proudly displays its renewed appearance and ancient decorations. Explore the luxuriously decorated chambers, the elaborately adorned staircase nestled inside the castle, and the stunning ceiling embellishments.
The 19th-century English-style gardens on the exterior offer an ideal setting for strolling and hoping for a bluebird to perch on your shoulder.
