Summary
Description
Each year, Cité de Carcassonne receives the same number of visitors as the better-known Mont Saint-Michel. Featuring 2,500 years of history, huge 13th-century fortified walls, watchtowers, ramparts, and a castle, exploring this medieval city promises a truly distinctive experience.
This ticket allows you to explore the enormous double wall and the 14th-century Great Well. Legend has it that the Visigoths concealed the treasure of the Temple of Solomon here. The treasure has yet to be found, so be sure to be on the lookout for anything that sparkles.
In the 3rd century BC, the Gauls established themselves in Carcassonne, soon followed by the Romans, traders, crusaders, and wanderers. The history encompassed within these walls is truly remarkable.
However, Napoleon made the decision to demolish it during the 19th century. Fortunately, the effort to protect it succeeded, and now, the Cité is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site after being restored.
