Description

Discover the universe of the famous Catalan painter Joan Miró at The Fundació Joan Miró, and delve into a collection of Surrealist, Fauvist, and Expressionist masterpieces at a specialized Joan Miró museum in Barcelona.

Recognized for his distinctive perspective, Miró is regarded as a highly impactful figure in the realm of art due to his innovative use of vibrant colors and expansive natural shapes. His artistic repertoire spans across painting, sculpture, murals, and ceramics. Drawing a parallel between Miró's painting The Farm (which he possessed) and James Joyce's Ulysses, Ernest Hemingway highlighted the profound impact of Miró's work. Even though Miró was primarily a visual artist, he made attempts to elucidate his approach to color as a means of articulating his concepts, stating, "I strive to utilize colors akin to words that compose poems, and notes that compose music."

In 1968, the concept of establishing the foundation was initiated by Joan Miró. The main aim was to form a globally recognized hub in Barcelona that would allow emerging artists to interact with modern art. Staying true to the initial objective, the Foundation provides a section ("Espai 13") dedicated to the creations of budding experimental artists, alongside an extensive assortment of Miró's works. Presently, the Fundacio Miró Museum exhibits nearly 15,000 art pieces, including over 8,000 drawings, 217 paintings, 178 sculptures, as well as ceramics, textiles, and graphic works.

Throughout the year, the Joan Miró museum in Barcelona hosts temporary exhibitions showcasing artists from the 20th and 21st centuries. In addition to these exhibitions, the foundation arranges academic events and collaborates on projects with other institutions and organizations.
