Being the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world, Windsor Castle has served as the family residence of British monarchs for nearly a millennium and is currently among the designated residences of His Majesty The King.
The Castle spans over 10.5 hectares and provides visitors with a diverse experience, which includes exploring the impressive State Apartments and St George's Chapel. The State Apartments in the Castle are adorned with exquisite pieces from the Royal Collection, showcasing the evolving preferences of the royal residents of the Castle, notably Charles II and George IV.Some of the great artworks exhibited include paintings by Holbein, Rubens, and Van Dyck, delicate English and French furniture, as well as Sèvres porcelain. Several of these artistic pieces remain in their original historical surroundings, where they were initially acquired or ordered by the monarchs who resided at Windsor.
Guests have the option to explore the Castle independently by taking advantage of a complimentary multimedia tour. Between October and March, guests are also welcome to visit the luxurious Semi-State Apartments, which were George IV's private rooms in the 19th century.
Refreshments are available at the Undercroft Café, located in one of the Castle's oldest medieval sections where visitors can enjoy.
